How Much Does a Website Cost?
It is the first thing most people want to know, and it is usually the hardest thing to find a straight answer to. Search for it and you will get everything from a few hundred dollars to five figures with no explanation of the gap in between.
So here is how I price websites at On Point Creative, what actually moves the number, and what you get for it.
Here's what determines the cost of a website, and what to expect at each level.
The Short Answer
A custom WordPress website with On Point Creative starts from $3,000.
Most service based business websites land between $3,000-$3,500. Larger builds with custom functionality, membership areas, or a full WooCommerce store sit above that.
Every project is quoted as a flat rate before we start. You will know the full figure, what it covers, and the payment schedule before you commit to anything.
What Actually Changes the Price
Two websites can look similar and cost very different amounts. Here is what makes the difference:
• How many pages you need. A five page site and a twenty five page site are different builds, not the same build stretched out.
• Custom functionality. Booking integrations, member logins, calculators, filtered directories, portals. Anything that has to be built rather than configured adds time.
• Whether you are selling online. A WooCommerce store brings in products, variations, shipping rules, payments, and tax settings. It is a bigger scope than a brochure site.
• Integrations with tools you already use. CRMs, email platforms, accounting software, quoting systems.
• Content readiness. If your copy and photography are done, the build moves faster. If you need copywriting or a photo shoot, that gets scoped in.
• Design complexity. A clean, well structured layout is quicker to build than a heavily animated, highly custom one.
What's Included in Every Website
The number I quote is the number you pay. These are not add ons:
• Custom design built around your business, not a template off the shelf
• Mobile responsive across phone, tablet, and desktop
• Technical SEO foundations so the site can actually be found
• Client portal with training modules so you can manage your own content
• Three months of post launch support
• A launch that is tested properly before it goes live
Why I Quote Flat Rate, Not Hourly
An hourly rate turns every question into a cost and every change into a negotiation. That is a bad way to work together and it makes budgeting impossible for you.
I scope the project properly at the start, quote one flat figure, and stick to it. If the scope genuinely changes partway through because you have decided to add something, we talk about it before any work happens. No surprise invoices.
The Cost of Getting It Wrong
The lowest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome. I have rebuilt a lot of websites for businesses who paid once for something that did not work, then paid again to have it fixed properly.
What usually goes wrong: the site is built on a page builder nobody supports, it is not structured for search, the business has no access to their own hosting or domain, or the person who built it has disappeared.
A website is a working asset. It should bring in enquiries, hold up under Google's expectations, and be something you can hand to someone else to maintain if you ever need to.
Ongoing Costs to Plan For
The build is a one off. These are the running costs:
• Hosting - Australian based, secure, and managed. Monthly or annual.
• Domain registration - renewed annually, and you keep ownership of it.
• Website Care Plan - optional but recommended. Updates, security monitoring, backups, and support so the site stays current as your business changes.
I handle all three so you are not chasing three different providers when something needs attention..
How Payment Works
Website projects are split across milestones rather than paid upfront in full. Your first payment covers the initial milestone plus your first hosting period, so everything is ready to go from day one.
The full schedule is set out in your scope of work before you sign anything.
How to Get an Accurate Number
I cannot quote a website from an email that says "how much for a website." Not because I am being difficult, but because the honest answer depends on what you need it to do.
Here is how it works:
1. A quick strategy call. Twenty to thirty minutes, no charge. We talk about your business, what the site needs to achieve, and whether we are a good fit.
2. A discovery session if we move forward, to work through the detail.
3. A written scope of work with a flat rate figure, a timeline, and exactly what is included.
No pressure, no obligation, and you will get a real number rather than a range.
